TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan is seeking to deepen cooperation with Malaysia on AI and digital transformation, Taiwan’s representative to Malaysia, Lien Yu-ping (連玉蘋), said Tuesday.
Speaking at Taiwan Smart Technology Solutions Connect in Kuala Lumpur, Lien said Taiwan hopes to become a key partner in Malaysia’s smart transformation by leveraging its strengths in semiconductors and supply chains, per CNA. The event brought together 26 Taiwanese companies involved in smart cities and green energy.
Lien said Taiwan and Malaysia hold complementary positions in the semiconductor ecosystem. Taiwan leads in wafer fabrication and advanced chipmaking processes, while Malaysia plays a major role in chip packaging, testing, and electronics manufacturing services, she said.
Lien also urged Malaysia to improve legal protections for foreign investors and update its more than 30-year-old bilateral investment agreement with Taiwan. She said stronger investment safeguards would help attract more Taiwanese companies and support broader bilateral cooperation.
Industry representatives from Taiwan and Malaysia said manufacturers are adopting “distributed production, centralized management” strategies amid supply chain restructuring. They added that demand for AI-driven smart manufacturing and digital solutions is continuing to accelerate across Southeast Asia.
