TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Japanese cosmetics group Shiseido plans to shut down its factory in Hukou, Hsinchu County, next year, reports said Wednesday.
The plant has 170 employees, but the company did not detail how many people would lose their jobs, per CNA. Shiseido will transfer production to factories in Japan.
Taiwan Shiseido Co., Ltd., in which the Japanese group holds a 51% stake, will focus on its local distribution business, the company said in a statement. The Hukou plant manufactures skincare products for Taiwan and other Asia-Pacific markets.
The closure is part of the “2030 Medium-Term Strategy” announced in November 2025. According to the company website, the Hukou factory opened in 2016.
Production will end in the first quarter of 2027, and the plant will close permanently in the second quarter of that year. Shiseido still operates plants in Beijing and Shanghai, CNA reported.
