TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) welcomed Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon to Taiwan on Tuesday.
Lin said Taiwan and Wyoming have maintained close exchanges since establishing sister-state relations in 1984, according to the foreign ministry. He said he was pleased to see the continued expansion of cooperation in areas such as energy and technology.
The foreign minister said Taiwan-US relations have steadily deepened in recent years, with Taiwan now ranking as the US’ fourth-largest trading partner. He said both countries have established a mutually beneficial partnership.
Gordon, who arrived Sunday, said he was glad to return to Taiwan and expand exchanges on net-zero carbon-emission technologies, per the foreign ministry. He noted that Taiwan and Wyoming have already achieved fruitful cooperation in quantum technology, carbon capture, and small modular reactors.
The governor added that his state is willing to share its natural resources with Taiwan and hopes both sides will continue collaborating on energy and related technology research and development.
In a Facebook post, Gordon said, “Wyoming brings energy abundance, cutting-edge research, and a commitment to the next generation of energy technologies, and we’re building partnerships that turn those strengths into real opportunities for both of us.”
During Gordon’s two-day visit, the University of Wyoming signed memorandums of understanding with Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute and National Central University on cooperation in carbon capture and utilization technologies, the foreign ministry said. The university also signed an agreement with the National Atomic Research Institute on scientific research cooperation involving small modular reactors.
