TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs drone team signed a letter of intent with the US-based Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International to conduct exchanges in training and certification, reports said Wednesday.
The signing took place at Xponential 2026 in Detroit, Michigan. The US association praised Taiwan for its speed, scale, resilience, and leadership excellence, per CNA.
The Taiwanese team first attended the SelectUSA Investment Summit in Washington, DC, before traveling to Detroit to take part in a drone forum. The official signatory for the letter of intent was the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Global UAV Academy.
The ministry founded the academy in November with the aim of promoting Taiwan’s drone sector internationally, according to Academy Chief Executive Director Chiang Zhen-wei (江振瑋). As the sector consists mostly of small and medium-sized enterprises, it needs extra assistance to expand its reputation across borders, he said.
Association President and CEO Michael Robbins said that as authoritarian nations join hands to increase their threats, it is even more essential for democracies to cooperate. Taiwan is important because it is a force in drone manufacturing and research and development, he added.
