TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The DPP on Wednesday shared its overall strategy to win the Taipei mayoral election in November.
DPP Legislator Chen Pei-yu (陳培瑜), a member of the election strategy committee, said the vision for Taipei’s development must be built around residents’ aspirations and expectations, CNA reported. Chen said the campaign team’s priority is listening to residents’ needs, followed by determining how to implement policies.
The committee is also using AI-driven data analysis to review governance issues spanning former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je’s (柯文哲) eight years in office through the first two years of the Chiang administration, she said.
The DPP announced Wednesday that it has tapped Legislator Puma Shen (沈伯洋) as the party’s candidate for the Taipei mayoral race. DPP Spokesperson Wu Cheng (吳崢) said the election strategy committee unanimously recommended that the Central Executive Committee nominate Shen, per CNA.
Shen will challenge incumbent Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安). President and DPP Chair Lai Ching-te (賴清德) will personally place a campaign sash on Shen at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
Responding to comments from the KMT camp that Shen would be easy to defeat, Chen said that while Shen is focused on sharing his vision for city governance, opposition lawmakers and councilors only seek to attack him. “People can clearly see who is the strongest candidate and which team has the greatest vision for Taipei,” she said.
