TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — J&V Energy Technology on Wednesday announced plans to acquire a portfolio of operating solar power plants in Taiwan.
The renewable energy company said it has signed an agreement with Global Infrastructure Partners, an investment fund. The deal covers the acquisition of 42 operating solar sites in central and southern Taiwan, according to CNA.
The assets generate an estimated 270 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. This is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of around 80,000 households.
Separately, the solar portfolio has a total installed capacity of 187 megawatts, which represents the maximum potential power output under optimal conditions at any given moment. One MW of solar capacity typically requires around 3,000 to 4,000 panels, depending on efficiency and sunlight conditions, according to Pknergy.
The transaction is expected to be completed in the third quarter. Industry participants estimate that, based on current market conditions, the total value of the deal could exceed NT$10 billion (US$316.5 million).
J&V Energy Vice President Tan Yu-hsuan (譚宇軒) said the acquisition will strengthen the group’s footprint in Taiwan’s renewable energy sector. He added that, in addition to expanding generation capacity, the move will support subsidiary Greenet Co. in scaling up green power trading and long-term resource allocation capabilities.
J&V Energy, founded in 2016, focuses on the development, construction, investment and operations of solar power systems. The company provides one-stop services that span the entire development and operation process, according to MoneyDJ.
