TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Navy will hold a commissioning ceremony for its Littoral Combat Command on July 1.
Military officials said the command headquarters will be located at the joint military base in Huwei, Yunlin County, Liberty Times reported. The facility will serve solely as an operational command center and was considered the most appropriate site because it already houses Air Force and Military Police units.
The command incorporates the Navy’s mobile radar units, missile vehicle units, and unmanned aerial vehicle forces under a new operational structure led by a lieutenant general-level command.
The Littoral Combat Command will primarily rely on Taiwan’s domestically produced Hsiung Feng-series anti-ship missiles and US-made Harpoon anti-ship missiles, per Liberty Times. Hsiung Feng missile production has already reached more than 95% completion and is expected to conclude by the end of this year. Deliveries of Harpoon missiles are ongoing.
Apart from a small number of existing fixed missile sites, the command will field only mobile missile launchers to increase operational flexibility and improve the survivability of Taiwan’s anti-ship missile forces during combat.
