TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) said Tuesday that Taiwan and Wyoming should deepen cooperation in low-carbon technology and critical minerals.
Lai made the remarks while meeting Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon and a visiting delegation from the state, per CNA. The visit marked Gordon’s second trip to Taiwan since taking office.
Accompanied by National Security Council Secretary-General Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍), Lai thanked Gordon for supporting exchanges in agriculture, education, and technology since 2019. He also noted that many Taiwanese students have studied in Wyoming, strengthening people-to-people ties.
Lai said cooperation between the two sides has expanded in trade, energy, and technology in recent years. He highlighted a memorandum signed last year between the Wyoming Energy Authority and the Taiwan Association of Quantum Computing and Information Technology to promote quantum development.
During Gordon’s visit, the University of Wyoming signed letters of intent with the Industrial Technology Research Institute and National Central University. The agreements focus on advanced technologies and carbon capture, utilization, and storage.
Lai said the partnerships would help promote net-zero transformation while strengthening cooperation. He added that Wyoming’s strengths make it an important partner for Taiwan as it advances supply chain resilience.
