TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taitung County experienced a magnitude 5.6 earthquake at 2:53 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the Central Weather Administration.
The epicenter was located 66.8 kilometers northeast of Taitung County Hall at a depth of 22.9 kilometers, the CWA said. Taiwan uses a scale of 1 to 7 to measure a quake's intensity at a specific location.
The quake registered a 4 in Taitung County and Hualien County. An intensity level of 3 was recorded in Nantou County, Yunlin County, and Changhua County.
An intensity level of 2 was reported in Kaohsiung, Chiayi County, Tainan, Taichung, Chiayi, Yilan County, and Miaoli County. An intensity level of 1 was measured in Pingtung County, Taoyuan, Hsinchu County, Hsinchu, New Taipei, and Taipei.
