TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Science Park Review Committee approved more than NT$50.63 billion (US$1.61 billion) in new investments on Monday, according to the National Science and Technology Council.
The projects span semiconductor, emerging technology, and optoelectronics sectors, per CNA. The committee also approved 10 capital increase projects totaling about NT$2.18 billion, per Anue.
The NSTC said Hsinchu Science Park continued to benefit from its semiconductor cluster effect, drawing companies focused on silicon carbide (SiC), application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), and high-performance computing technologies.
Among the approved projects, Mi Semiconductor and Vianext will establish operations in Hsinchu Science Park. Mi Semiconductor, a subsidiary of Malaysia-listed Mi Technovation Berhad, plans to focus on high-power semiconductor components and SiC-related applications.
NSTC said Mi Semiconductor has already set up a research institute in Hsinchu and aims to cooperate with Taiwan’s SiC industry and academic sectors. The council added that the project is expected to strengthen the country’s SiC supply chain and cultivate semiconductor talent.
Vianext will focus on ASICs, customized silicon intellectual property, and advanced IC packaging technologies. The NSTC said the investment will help strengthen Taiwan’s capabilities in AI computing chips and advanced IC design.
Other approved projects included branches in Pingtung Science Park by Mega Union and Cica-Huntek Chemical Technology Taiwan Co., Ltd. The NSTC said the investments will support process water efficiency, carbon reduction, and waste recycling services.
