TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — KMT Chair Cheng Li-wun (鄭麗文) is finalizing a US trip expected to take place in early June, the party’s representative in the US, Chin Jih-hsin (秦日新), said Sunday.
Cheng recently said she had received invitations from members of the US Congress, think tanks, and overseas Taiwanese groups, CNA reported. She said she plans to visit major cities, including New York, Boston, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, with a possible stop in Texas.
During the trip, Cheng said she intends to meet public figures and hopes to engage with people from across the political spectrum and with diverse viewpoints, per CNA. Cheng previously said she plans to arrange meetings with senior officials in Washington, DC, to explain what was discussed during her meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and exchange views on issues of mutual concern.
In Boston, Cheng will visit Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Sources said the duration of the trip will depend on the number of planned events in each city and whether Cheng visits major cities in the southern US.
