TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Passengers on the new N700ST trains will enjoy lower noise levels and more comfortable seats, Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation said Friday.
The company has ordered 12 sets of the train from Japan’s Hitachi Toshiba Supreme Consortium. They are scheduled to arrive in Taiwan in August up until the end of 2028, with the first of the trains starting service in August 2027.
The company unveiled the interior of the N700ST Friday. The windows will be smaller than on the 34 current 700T trains, but they will cut down the level of noise entering from outside, the Liberty Times reported.
Each blue seat is equipped with a charging dock, while the seats themselves recline when a passenger sits down, according to the report. The back of each seat has a hook to hang clothes and bags from.
A closed-circuit video system increases safety for passengers, THSRC Chair Shih Che (史哲) said in a reel posted on the company’s Facebook page.
