TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — MediaTek on Thursday opened a new research and development data center in Miaoli County to strengthen computing capacity and support demand for AI.
The company said the first phase of the facility, located in Tongluo Science Park, has a capacity of about 15 MW, per CNA. It includes an AI high-performance computing platform built on an Nvidia DGX SuperPOD cluster powered by the DGX B200 platform.
MediaTek said the data center extensively uses immersion cooling technology to improve computing efficiency and reduce energy consumption. The company also installed rooftop solar panels with a planned annual generation of about 280,000 kWh, equivalent to the yearly electricity use of about 67 households.
Construction began in 2023 and follows diamond-level green building standards, per Liberty Times. The facility was designed with wafer-fab-grade power stability, featuring a 2N dual-redundancy power system and full-load backup generators.
MediaTek said the facility also incorporates reclaimed water systems for cooling. Air conditioning uses recycled water supplied by the science park through a precision circulation system.
MediaTek did not disclose the scale of investment but described the project as a commitment to growth. The company added that supply chain constraints, particularly shortages of memory and solid-state drives, remain among the biggest challenges for IT infrastructure this year.
