TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Former TPP Legislator Li Chen-hsiu (李貞秀) has lost her case against the Central Election Commission’s decision to revoke her status as a lawmaker, reports said Wednesday.
Li was unable to prove she had given up her Chinese nationality, and the TPP expelled her from the party, leading to her removal from the Legislative Yuan last month. She took the issue to court, seeking to revoke the Central Election Commission’s decision.
However, the Taipei High Administrative Court decided Wednesday that it could not rule on her request because she had not followed the correct procedure, Liberty Times reported. She should not have gone directly to the court, though she can still appeal Wednesday’s decision.
The Taipei District Court is still handling a separate case filed by Li, per CNA. The former lawmaker is seeking a provisional injunction to suspend the TPP’s decision to expel her from the party.
During her time as a lawmaker, government officials, including Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰), refused to answer her questions at the Legislative Yuan. Cho also told government departments not to provide her with information and documents as long as her Chinese citizenship status had not been resolved.
