TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s listed companies posted strong growth last year driven by the AI boom, with the electronic components sector leading industries in earnings, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said Tuesday.
Ministry data showed total net revenue rose 9.5% year-on-year to NT$27.18 trillion (US$861.57 billion), per CNA. Operating income surged 31.9% to NT$3.26 trillion, reflecting improved profitability.
Manufacturing remained the dominant force, accounting for nearly 67.8% of listed firms and more than 80% of total revenue, per Liberty Times. The information and electronics segment served as the main growth engine.
Within manufacturing, computer, electronics, and optical products generated NT$10.91 trillion in revenue, while electronic components reached NT$7.32 trillion. Together, they made up about 80% of manufacturing revenue and drove overall growth.
Manufacturing operating income climbed 39.2% to NT$2.78 trillion, with margins rising to 12.3%. The electronic components sector stood out, posting NT$2.17 trillion in income and a 29.7% margin, the highest among all industries.
In contrast, the chemical materials and fertilizer sector slipped into losses, reporting negative operating income and margins. This highlighted uneven performance across traditional industries.
Non-manufacturing firms accounted for about one-third of listed companies and 17% of revenue. Their total revenue rose 3.8% to NT$4.65 trillion, led by wholesale and retail trade on strong demand for semiconductors and memory.
Operating income in non-manufacturing grew modestly by 1.1% to NT$478.7 billion, with margins at 10.3%. Transportation and warehousing led in profits despite a decline, as falling freight rates weighed on performance.
Large firms continued to dominate, with the top 50 companies accounting for more than 70% of total revenue. Their revenue grew 11.9% year-on-year, underscoring increasing concentration and stronger momentum among major players.
