TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Deputy Foreign Minister Francois Wu (吳志中) welcomed a six-member delegation from the Belgian Federal Chamber of Representatives on Monday.
In his remarks, Wu said Taiwan and Belgium are like-minded partners that cooperate in the semiconductor supply chain, offshore wind power, medicine, and health, according to the foreign ministry. He thanked the chamber for its long-standing support of Taiwan and expressed hope for expanded cooperation.
Pierre Kompany, head of the delegation, said the members represent various regions of Belgium and focus on different issues, per the foreign ministry. Kompany said he hoped the visit would improve their understanding of Taiwan and the current situation in the Indo-Pacific.
The two sides later exchanged views on Indo-Pacific security, renewable energy, and prospects for bilateral cooperation.
During their stay in Taiwan, the delegation will meet with the Legislative Yuan, National Security Council, and other government ministries, the foreign ministry said. They will hold seminars with think tank scholars on topics such as countering foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI) and defense readiness.
The delegation will also visit Taichung to tour Taiwan’s defense industry.
