TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) praised the strong ties between Taiwan and Japan during a meeting with a visiting Liberal Democratic Party youth delegation on Tuesday.
Hsiao said Taiwan and Japan have supported each other amid natural disasters, such as earthquakes and typhoons, according to the Presidential Office. The two countries also maintain close coordination and collaboration in many sectors, she said.
The vice president added that as global challenges arise, Taiwan and Japan strive to tackle them together. She also noted that Hiranuma Shojiro, director of the LDP Youth Division, has visited Taiwan multiple times since President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) took office.
This demonstrates the cross-generational friendship between Taiwan and Japan, Hsiao said.
Hsiao said she was happy to see a new generation of Japanese lawmakers maintain a keen interest in Taiwan and demonstrate their support through frequent visits. She said continuous exchanges between the two countries have only made their cooperation closer than ever.
The delegation includes members of both houses of Japan’s Diet and will discuss bilateral issues and the regional situation with Taiwanese officials. Taiwan’s foreign ministry said the LDP Youth Division often holds discussions with all sectors of society in Taiwan about recent regional developments.
