TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — An all-party delegation from India arrived in Taiwan on Sunday for a six-day visit at the invitation of the foreign ministry.
The delegation includes rising political leaders from India’s major parties, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, National People’s Party, Indian National Congress, and Shiv Sena, according to the foreign ministry.
During their stay, the group will meet with government agencies and participate in organized site visits, the foreign ministry said. The activities are designed to improve the group’s understanding of Taiwan’s democracy, economy, and education.
The foreign ministry called India an important like-minded partner in the Indo-Pacific region. It pledged to continue exchanges with India across all sectors and jointly contribute to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.
The delegation’s visit comes as Taiwan and India are finalizing a labor deal. Under the agreement, Taiwan would accept 1,000 Indian migrant workers.
Labor Minister Hung Shen-han (洪申翰) said the plan could proceed as early as this year, depending on demand from Taiwanese businesses and whether India’s implementation plan meets Taiwan’s regulatory standards.
If these conditions are not met, no workers will be introduced, and there will be no timetable, Hung said.
