TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A delegation from New Zealand’s All-Party Parliamentary Group on Taiwan arrived in Taiwan on Monday for a five-day visit to strengthen bilateral ties.
This marks the group’s third visit to Taiwan since its establishment in 2023, according to the foreign ministry. The group met with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) during its last visit in April 2025.
During its stay, the delegation will visit the Legislative Yuan and government ministries to exchange views on regional security and issues of mutual concern. The foreign ministry said it has also organized an itinerary for the lawmakers to improve their understanding of Taiwan.
New Zealand is a key partner of Taiwan in the Indo-Pacific region, the foreign ministry said. The two countries share the fundamental values of democracy and freedom and enjoy close economic and trade relations under the Agreement between New Zealand and the Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu on Economic Cooperation, the ministry said.
Taiwan looks forward to elevating the Taiwan-New Zealand partnership through parliamentary diplomacy and working together to promote regional democracy and stability, it added.
In November, New Zealand dispatched the supply ship HMNZS Aotearoa through the Taiwan Strait from the South China Sea to North Asia.
