TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Two executives at the Foxconn Technology Group plant in Tucheng, New Taipei, were released on bail after questioning about accepting more than NT$10 million (US$316,000) in kickbacks, reports said Friday.
Prosecutors raided the offices of the two executives Thursday and summoned them for questioning. A department head named Tseng (曾) and a more senior official named Chien (錢) were accused of having received kickbacks from businesses dealing with Foxconn, the Liberty Times reported.
New Taipei District Prosecutors Office suspected they falsified records and committed a special breach of trust. However, prosecutors decided there was no need to keep them detained, so they set bail at NT$2 million for Tseng and NT$1 million for Chien.
The suspects were also barred from leaving the country and from moving home. Tseng’s wife, who was also suspected of laundering money from the deals, was freed without bail.
Foxconn issued a statement saying the investigation was focusing on the two staff members, but had no connection with and no impact on the company’s finances and operations, the Liberty Times reported. Foxconn said it would fully cooperate with the authorities, while also respecting the confidentiality of the investigation.
