TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Paraguay President Santiago Pena is scheduled to lead a delegation to Taiwan for a state visit from May 7 to 10.
The delegation includes Paraguay Foreign Minister Ruben Ramirez, Minister of Industry and Commerce Marco Riquelme, and Secretary-General of the Presidency Francisco Javier Gimenez, according to the foreign ministry.
Pena will attend a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍). Representatives from Paraguay’s leading companies are also joining the delegation to hold a Paraguayan Investment Opportunities Seminar.
This is Pena’s second visit to Taiwan since taking office in August 2023 and his first state visit. President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) will welcome Pena with full military honors and confer the Order of Brilliant Jade with Grand Cordon on him to recognize his contributions to Taiwan-Paraguay relations.
The medal is the highest civilian order in Taiwan.
During his stay, Pena will witness the signing of several bilateral cooperation agreements, visit the Southern Taiwan Science Park, and receive an honorary doctorate from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.
The foreign ministry said Taiwan and Paraguay have collaborated on numerous projects over the years that have significantly benefited the well-being of their people. The ministry said it would continue to promote its Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project to bolster bilateral trade and sustainable development.
