TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan has sufficient asphalt to meet demand through the end of July, with prices stabilizing despite Middle East supply concerns, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said Wednesday.
The ministry said it is monitoring domestic supply and coordinating with key suppliers to ensure market stability. Current inventory levels indicate steady supply and normal pricing conditions, per CNA.
Domestic asphalt is mainly supplied by CPC Corp. and Formosa Petrochemical. As of Tuesday, combined inventories stood at about 61,000 metric tons, with CPC planning to import an additional 9,000 tons in May.
Formosa Petrochemical has also pledged to prioritize domestic demand to maintain a stable supply, the ministry added.
The ministry explained that asphalt prices have stabilized, with quotations from the two suppliers converging, indicating normal market operations. It added that authorities will step up coordination to prevent price gouging or hoarding.
Amid global uncertainty, the ministry said it will monitor supply-demand dynamics and assist firms in diversifying sources.
