TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Mobile President Lin Chih-chen (林之晨) said Wednesday the company aims to boost revenue to as much as NT$400 billion (US$12.66 billion) by 2030 by expanding AI infrastructure and reviving overseas submarine cable projects.
Speaking at a media briefing, Lin said Taiwan Mobile is positioning itself as a “telecom carrier” as AI reshapes industry dynamics, per CNA. The company is shifting toward an ecosystem-based model that integrates services across multiple sectors, per UDN.
Taiwan Mobile is linking five key investment areas — AI, shared mobility, e-commerce and fintech, content, and sustainability services — to drive new revenue streams, Lin said. It is also expanding emerging businesses such as virtual assets, telecom finance, and branded e-commerce.
Lin said the company plans to upgrade its fixed-line backbone to an all-optical network within 12 to 18 months. The upgrade is intended to improve transmission efficiency and support rising data traffic from AI applications.
Taiwan Mobile will also restart investments in overseas submarine cables, anticipating strong growth in global data flows. Lin said the company plans to join international cable consortia, with each project requiring about NT$1 billion in investment.
The company reported consolidated revenue of NT$198.76 billion last year, with pretax earnings hitting a record high. Operating profit reached a 14-year high, while net profit rose to a nine-year high, with earnings per share at NT$4.77.
