TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) lauded Taiwan’s close tech partnership with Guatemala on Tuesday.
Speaking at a banquet for Guatemalan Public Finance Minister Jonathan Menkos, Lin said that Taiwan is assisting Guatemala in semiconductors and information and communications security through the Diplomatic Allies Prosperity Project, according to the foreign ministry.
By sharing technological governance experience, technical expertise, and professional training, Taiwan is helping Guatemala realize its "Chip Road" (Ruta del Chip) initiative and achieve industrial transformation, Lin said.
Lin said Guatemalan President Bernardo Arevalo’s determination to enhance fiscal transparency and efficient governance aligns with Taiwan’s core democratic values. The foreign ministry will continue to encourage Taiwanese enterprises to invest and expand their operations in Guatemala, the minister added.
Lin said both countries have also achieved fruitful results in public health and medicine, investment and trade, and education.
Menkos praised Taiwan’s strengths in public sector digital governance and technology. He hoped that his visit would provide opportunities to learn from Taiwan and open a new chapter in bilateral cooperation.
The minister reaffirmed the friendly diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Guatemala and acknowledged Taiwan’s long-term contributions to his country. He also expressed confidence that both nations can work together to promote mutual economic prosperity.
Menkos arrived in Taiwan on Monday and will leave on Friday. During his trip, he will visit multiple Taiwan ministries, including the finance ministry and digital affairs ministry. He will also visit cultural and historical sites.
