TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) said Wednesday that Taiwan has become a reliable partner in the global medical community, citing EU recognition of its pharmaceutical standards.
In a recorded speech for the Taiwan–Europe Health Forum, Hsiao said the EU has recognized Taiwan as a third country for active pharmaceutical ingredients exported to Europe, per CNA. She also noted Taiwan’s associate membership in the International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities.
Hsiao said these developments demonstrate that Taiwan is aligning its regulatory framework with international standards. She added that they reflect growing trust in Taiwan’s healthcare and pharmaceutical systems.
She noted government efforts to build a “Healthy Taiwan,” including a NT$10 billion (US$316.71 million) cancer drug fund and expanded chronic disease care programs.
Hsiao said Taiwan will deepen cooperation with European governments, research institutions, and industry partners. She said the goal is to strengthen global health systems and advance a new phase of public health cooperation.
