TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan’s education bureau said Tuesday that the city is investing over NT$2.4 billion (US$75 million) to expand artificial intelligence education and improve smart learning in schools.
The city government said digital learning has become widely adopted over the past four years, with more than 95% of students using tablets in class and 96% of teachers completing related training. These figures show digital tools are now integral to daily teaching.
Starting this year, the city will launch a four-year smart learning program. The plan includes NT$2.2 billion for digital infrastructure and NT$270 million for AI programming and generative AI-assisted learning.
The funding will support upgrades to both hardware and software in schools. Projects include expanding wireless networks, installing interactive displays, and introducing AI-powered teaching applications, per Yahoo News.
The city also aims to reduce the urban-rural gap by allocating more resources to remote schools. Officials will strengthen teacher training and encourage student participation in AI and robotics competitions.
The Education Bureau said it will continue integrating public and private resources to expand AI use in education. Officials added the long-term goal is to create a modern and inclusive smart learning environment for all students.
