TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A bipartisan Australian parliamentary delegation arrived in Taiwan on Monday for a six-day visit.
The delegation is led by Senator Carol Brown and Shadow Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction Dan Tehan, according to the foreign ministry.
During their visit, the delegation will hold in-depth exchanges with government ministries and the Legislative Yuan, the foreign ministry said. They will also visit institutions and facilities to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan’s development in the fields of economy, trade, technology, and culture.
The delegation seeks to deepen Taiwan-Australia relations.
The foreign ministry said Taiwan and Australia are like-minded partners that have continued to strengthen exchanges on issues including culture, science, and energy. The ministry said it remains committed to deepening cooperative relations between Taiwan and Australia across all sectors.
Australian lawmakers last visited Taiwan in October. During their trip, they met with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴), who thanked Australia for reaffirming the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait in global forums.
She also expressed gratitude for Australia’s support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations.
Hsiao added that Australia is one of Taiwan’s key trading partners, and their economies are highly complementary.
