TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The military wrapped up the computer-assisted phase of the Han Kuang 42 exercise on Friday.
Minister of National Defense Wellington Koo (顧立雄) said the purpose of the two-week exercise was to train commanders in decision-making, according to Military News Agency. The core objective was to mirror actual combat, test joint operations mechanisms, and strengthen combat readiness, Koo said.
Scenarios transitioned from gray-zone harassment to high-intensity military conflict and were based on recent international conflicts. The exercise included multi-domain battlefields and hybrid threat elements, allowing offensive and defending forces to practice decision-making and operational responses, per MNA.
To strengthen command-and-control resilience, military departments and civilian agencies adopted decentralized strategies, Koo said. This ensured that even under enemy strikes, backup mechanisms could immediately take over.
The defense minister added that commanders at all levels should now review the issues that emerged during the exercise and make improvements. They should use the experience as an important reference for strengthening peacetime readiness and wartime deployments, he said.
Koo said the military will continue to improve force building and combat readiness through various exercises. The live-fire portion of Han Kuang 42 will begin in August.
