TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – One Taiwanese tourist was reported killed and 12 injured when their vehicle overturned during a tour in the Chinese province of Gansu, reports said Saturday.
The Straits Exchange Foundation said the victim was part of a group of more than 30 Taiwanese who traveled to China on April 20, per CNA. Friday afternoon, a vehicle carrying 15 of the group members overturned, with one traveler killed and 12 injured.
Nine of the injured were still at a hospital for observation, the foundation said. The travel agency was arranging for relatives of the fatal victim to fly to Gansu.
A police officer from Sanyi in Miaoli County and his wife were among the injured, while the man who was killed was a brother of the officer’s wife, according to a UDN report. Another police officer from Taichung also traveled with the group, which had been scheduled to return to Taiwan on May 1.
