TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Financial Supervisory Commission on Thursday warned banks and insurers to prepare for rising cybersecurity risks as AI tools expose new vulnerabilities.
The FSC issued the warning after its cybersecurity conference, held from April 15 to 20, drew more than 800 participants from 162 institutions, per CNA. It called on the sector to prepare for challenges such as AI threats and post-quantum cryptography.
FSC Vice Chair Chuang Hsiu-yuan (莊琇媛) said cybersecurity is no longer just a technical issue as financial services become more digitalized. She urged institutions to strengthen resilience through drills, redundancy, and recovery planning.
National Security Council Senior Advisor Li Yu-chieh (李育杰) echoed her remarks. He called for stronger intelligence sharing through the Financial Information Sharing and Analysis Center to improve joint defense.
Administration for Cyber Security Director-General Tsai Fu-lung (蔡福隆) said cybersecurity requires cooperation across the sector. He warned that AI tools such as Mythos can quickly identify new vulnerabilities, increasing pressure on defenses and talent.
The FSC said the event included joint exercises and coordination meetings to strengthen response. It also recognized 19 institutions for contributions to information sharing and joint defense.
Fubon Financial Holding received the most awards, with six recognitions across its subsidiaries, per The Storm.
