TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) on Thursday visited Cavite City in the Philippines to strengthen ties through official meetings and cooperation talks.
The city government said the visit focuses on practical exchanges and aims to advance city diplomacy through targeted discussions. Officials said the trip was arranged to promote closer cooperation and deepen mutual engagement.
Huang said Tainan values its nearly 50-year friendship with Cavite City and organized the visit to thank Mayor Denver Chua for leading a delegation to Tainan in March. He said the cities have built a strong foundation and aim to expand cooperation in trade, tourism, and education.
Huang said continued official visits and exchanges will help strengthen ties and ensure the relationship is passed on to future generations. He added that stable, long-term interaction is expected to create more opportunities for both sides.
Chua, accompanied by Vice Mayor Benzen Raleigh Rusit and local council members, welcomed the Tainan delegation. Huang said he felt the warmth and hospitality of the reception upon arrival, CNA reported.
Chua said he was impressed by Tainan’s governance during his March visit and hopes to deepen cooperation, particularly in youth education and exchanges. He added that Cavite City welcomes Tainan residents to visit and pursue further cooperation, per Economic Daily News.
Cavite City and Tainan established sister-city ties in 1980 and have maintained close relations since then. The March delegation from Cavite City included 17 officials who visited historical sites and local industries in Tainan to strengthen mutual understanding, per ETtoday.
