TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The KMT on Monday pressed the DPP government to move quickly to restore cross-strait flights and tourism with China.
The call follows Beijing’s recent announcement of 10 measures for Taiwan, including resuming passenger flights, per CNA. The KMT said authorities should set aside what it described as anti-China ideological constraints.
General Chamber of Commerce tourism committee deputy head Li Chi-yueh (李奇嶽) said reduced routes have driven up airfares and travel time, per CNA. He added that China recently sent a formal letter urging talks to expand routes and destinations.
In a statement, the KMT called for clear steps and timelines on key issues, including direct flights, tourism, agricultural and fishery exports, and streamlined food customs clearance and quarantine.
The party said the General Chamber of Commerce has proposed six measures focused on industry and livelihoods, including reviving tourism and expanding exports. It said these priorities reflect broad expectations for faster progress.
The KMT said that amid global economic uncertainty, the government should pursue policies that support businesses and the public. It urged the government to take a pragmatic approach rather than “opposing anything related to China and blocking all exchanges.”
