TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s Eva Air on Sunday announced it is evaluating new destinations as it receives additional aircraft.
Eva Air President Sun Chia-ming (孫嘉明) said possible destinations include New Delhi, Boston, and Helsinki, per CNA. Sun said 24 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft will begin delivery in the fourth quarter of next year, while 18 Airbus A321neo aircraft will be delivered by 2029. Additionally, eight Boeing 787-9s and 10 Boeing 787-10s are expected to be all delivered by 2033.
Sun said a New Delhi route would mainly target passengers transiting through Taipei to North America. He noted the large number of Indian students in North America and the presence of Indian talent in Silicon Valley, CNA reported. The potential opening of India’s migrant labor market is not a factor in the decision, he added.
Sun said that the A350-1000 aircraft will primarily serve routes to the US East Coast. At least three new aircraft must be delivered before launching a Boston route, Sun said, according to CNA. Crews would need time to gain operational familiarity with shorter routes, meaning a launch will not happen soon, he said.
The airline president said that once the airline’s freighter fleet is fully in place, it may consider resuming cargo routes to Europe, with Frankfurt as a likely terminus, CNA reported. Flights to Helsinki would depend on the end of the Russia-Ukraine war, he said.
Eva Air is launching a direct Taipei-Washington, DC route on June 26, with four flights each week.
