TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – American Institute in Taiwan Director Raymond Greene on Friday observed a civil defense response exercise held in conjunction with the Han Kuang 42 military drills.
The civil defense event was the first-ever such exercise conducted by the government’s Central Joint Emergency Operations Center, AIT said on its Facebook page Saturday. The April 12-21 drills represented “a significant step forward for Taiwan’s whole-of-society resilience efforts,” according to AIT.
The exercises tested coordination between different government departments in the event of a crisis. The aim was to improve emergency response capabilities and the operation of the command system.
Greene was pictured in the company of Interior Minister Liu Shyh-fang (劉世芳) and National Security Council Deputy Secretary-General Lin Fei-fan (林飛帆) during his visit.
