TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – China is continuing to spread false claims denigrating Taiwan’s sovereignty, most recently in a joint statement after a meeting with the foreign minister of Namibia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Saturday.
The statement included the description of Taiwan as “an inalienable part of China,” the ministry said. Taiwan issued a strong protest and condemnation of the Chinese text.
The ministry called in a statement to the international community to take note of China’s long-time efforts to use its relations with other countries to include texts denigrating Taiwan’s sovereignty. The tactic aims to create a false impression of an international consensus about Taiwan’s status, the ministry said.
Beijing’s efforts not only distort the true situation, but also reveal the way it damages regional peace and stability. The ministry said neither side was subordinate to the other, while China’s communist regime had never governed Taiwan.
