TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) compared Taiwan-US relations to hiking Friday after a walk with American Institute in Taiwan Director Raymond Greene.
The relationship is like hiking in that it forms a solid partnership to overcome difficulties together and reach the summit, she wrote on her Facebook page. The US envoy also posted on AIT’s Facebook page about the hike.
He said they shared a “meaningful conversation” about the progress of bilateral ties over the past decade. Tsai was elected president in 2016 and was re-elected in 2020, with Lai Ching-te (賴清德) succeeding her in 2024.
The progress of Taiwan-US relations was a reminder of their enduring friendship, Greene said. He added he was confident about the partnership continuing to “thrive for years to come,” just like the path that kept leading them forward.
The posts did not mention when and where Tsai and Greene went hiking, though they were both posted Friday with the same picture.
