TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Navy’s Dunmu Goodwill Fleet arrived in the Caribbean ally of Saint Lucia for its first visit, reports said Thursday.
The Taiwan embassy said the stop marked a milestone in the relationship between the two countries. The annual sailing of the Dunmu Goodwill Fleet has taken place for 59 years, while Taiwan and Saint Lucia have maintained official diplomatic relations for 32 years.
The fleet arrived in the Caribbean island nation on April 13 after more than a month at sea, Liberty Times reported. The ships also docked in the Marshall Islands, passed through the Panama Canal, and visited Saint Kitts and Nevis.
In Saint Lucia, External Affairs Minister Alva Baptiste was present at the welcome ceremony, according to the Taiwan embassy’s Facebook page. More than 800 officers were greeted by the Royal Saint Lucia Police Band, while the Taiwan Navy presented its marching band and a martial arts display.
The public, including teachers and students, were allowed to visit the ships. The 2026 mission features the support ship Panshih, the Cheng Kung-class guided missile frigate Yue Fei, and the Kang Ding-class guided missile frigate Di Hua.
