TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Financial Supervisory Commission said Wednesday it is monitoring AI agent-driven transactions and will develop appropriate responses.
FSC Chair Peng Chin-lung (彭金隆) said AI agents could soon autonomously complete payments based on user preferences, handling search and decision-making, per CNA. He said the agency is tracking the trend and preparing measures.
His remarks were made at a payment security and data trust summit, co-hosted by the National Credit Card Center and Mastercard, per UDN.
Mastercard announced in March that it completed Taiwan’s first identity-verified AI agent transaction. A user instructed an AI interface to arrange airport transport, with the system selecting a provider and completing booking and payment via a linked credit card.
Peng said AI agents are shifting to automated transactions across services. While this improves convenience, he warned that it also creates new risks in “invisible” transaction flows. He said key challenges include ensuring transaction security and clarifying accountability.
Peng said trust in AI-driven payments must extend beyond banks and users to include AI models and the wider digital ecosystem. He said the FSC has issued guidelines and is working with industry groups on regulation.
