TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei’s transport department said Thursday the city will hold a three-day program of activities from Friday to Sunday ahead of the May 12 opening of Danjiang Bridge.
CNA reported that the program includes an engineering site visit, a road race, and a cycling event. Officials warned that roads near Tamsui and Bali will face traffic restrictions and parking will be limited, and they urged people to use public transport or shuttle buses.
On Friday, an engineering visit event will take place from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Traffic controls will be enforced on several roads in Tamsui and Bali, and participants who miss shuttle buses can take the light rail or local bus routes to reach the venue.
On Saturday, a road running event organized by the Highway Bureau will begin at 2 p.m. The route will cross Tamsui and Bali, with some roads fully closed and others partially restricted, and drivers are advised to follow traffic directions and plan alternative routes.
Shuttle bus services will operate on both sides of the bridge during the weekend. In Tamsui, buses will depart from Tamsui MRT Station. In Bali, services will run from the Shihsanhang Museum, Shihsanhang Cultural Park, and the Bali District Office, per CTS news.
Some bus routes will also be adjusted during the events. On Saturday, several stops on route Red 26, including Tamsui Fish Market, Fisherman’s Wharf, and the light rail Fisherman’s Wharf Station, will be suspended from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., per Yahoo News.
On Sunday, a cycling event will take place from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., passing through Tamsui, Sanzhi, and Bali. Traffic controls will be implemented in stages as cyclists move along the route, and roads will reopen once they pass.
Officials encourage participants to carpool and use parking facilities in Bali to ease congestion in Tamsui. They also reminded the public to follow traffic control measures, check real-time traffic updates, and monitor police radio broadcasts for the latest information.
