TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The government is promoting 10 major AI infrastructure projects, which are expected to generate more than NT$15 trillion (US$471.63 billion) in output value and create 500,000 AI-related jobs by 2040, President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) said Monday.
The projects will also help various industries adopt AI tools and build a comprehensive AI ecosystem to lead Taiwan into a fully smart era, Lai said at an information technology award ceremony, per the Presidential Office.
The projects rest on three pillars: smart applications, infrastructure foundations, and key technologies, including silicon photonics, quantum computing, and robotics, Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said last year. The plan also emphasizes developing sovereign AI, strengthening computing power, and cultivating AI talent.
Lai said the government will invest in computing power infrastructure and develop a sovereign AI training dataset for Taiwan. Through smart governance and data management, it will ensure data security and innovation.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs will integrate five key policy resources — computing power, data, talent, marketing, and capital — to create a more robust development environment for businesses, the president said.
Lai said Taiwan must continue leveraging its technological strengths and convert its digital capabilities into momentum for industrial improvements and social progress.
