TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan-based broadcaster TVBS said Monday that it has no plans for any change in ownership or management control following recent media reports suggesting a possible sale.
The clarification came after reports alleged that Ku Chung-liang (辜仲諒), a major shareholder of CTBC Financial Holding, was interested in acquiring the broadcaster. The reports also stated that he had signed a memorandum of understanding with the family of TVBS major shareholder and HTC Chair Cher Wang (王雪紅), and had obtained priority rights for further negotiations, according to CNA.
TVBS said its operations remain stable and it is not operating at a loss. It added that there are no plans to change its ownership structure or management control.
On personnel matters, the broadcaster addressed speculation regarding on-air staff changes. It said some circulating reports were inaccurate and urged the public not to share unverified information.
The broadcaster said the staffing adjustments are part of broader industry restructuring and transformation efforts. It said that, based on a newsroom headcount of more than 400 at the end of last year, about 20 positions have been adjusted since the start of this year.
Looking ahead, TVBS said it is reallocating resources toward digital transformation and AI development while strengthening multi-skilled training. It added that it will outline its next-stage strategy on Wednesday, including new initiatives and international collaboration plans.
