TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Shipbuilder CSBC Corporation, Taiwan, launched an auxiliary repair dock for the Navy on Friday to replace a seven-decade-old predecessor.
The contract for the project was signed in 2023, with work starting in May 2024 and reaching completion in February, the company said. The price tag for No. 7 dock was NT$860 million (US$27 million), the Liberty Times reported.
The dock will be able to host repairs for ships up to 3,800 metric tons. According to CSBC, it measures 126 meters in length, and up to 36m in width.
The safety and efficiency of the dock have been improved due to the installation of a remote monitoring system for its operators, the shipbuilder said. Navy Commander Admiral Chiang Cheng-kuo (蔣正國) attended the launch ceremony at CSBC’s Kaohsiung shipyard on Friday.
