TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Da-Yeh University in Changhua County launched a semiconductor program targeting international students, CNA reported Wednesday.
The university said the new initiative enrolled five Vietnamese students this semester, aiming to meet rising global demand for chip talent. One student said the chance to stay and work in Taiwan after graduation would benefit their career development.
Dean of International Affairs Lee Shih-chieh (李世傑) said the program aligns with the Ministry of Education’s New Southbound Policy. The semiconductor track, run with Pinrex Precision Co., is designed to train talent for industry needs and help address workforce shortages, he explained.
Department of Electrical Engineering Chair Lin Sheng-yi (林聖義) said the program offers a two-year training plan for students from Southeast Asia. The first year focuses on core semiconductor knowledge and hands-on industry courses, while the second year includes internships with partner companies.
Lin said students will receive a monthly stipend of NT$10,000 (US$315) in the first year and paid internships in the second.
Vietnamese student Nguyen Minh Thang said Taiwan’s world-leading semiconductor sector was a key factor in his decision to enroll. He said access to advanced technology and the opportunity to work locally after graduation would support his career.
