TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) on Wednesday opened the Touch Taiwan exhibition in Taipei’s Nangang district, highlighting the strength and transformation of the country’s display industry.
Cho said the domestic display sector employs more than 150,000 people and generates NT$1 trillion (US$31.5 billion). He said the industry is moving toward higher-value products, shifting away from price competition through innovation and transformation, per UDN.
This year’s exhibition, themed “Innovation Together,” showcases the full display industry ecosystem, from key components and equipment to materials and end-use applications. Featured technologies include panel-level packaging, advanced semiconductor packaging, silicon photonics, and AI-assisted manufacturing.
Cho said the event has attracted 250 companies from around the world, reflecting how the display industry has expanded beyond traditional panel manufacturing into areas such as advanced packaging and integrated applications. He noted that display technologies have become ubiquitous, appearing in products ranging from mobile phones and tablets to televisions and household appliances.

Cho also highlighted technological advances, including the evolution of e-paper from black and white to color and improvements in microLED technology in brightness, resolution, and transparency. He added that silicon photonics is expected to play a key role in optical communications, offering low power consumption and high bandwidth for AI data centers and high-performance computing.
The premier said the government is promoting 13 strategic industries and 10 new AI initiatives aimed at accelerating Taiwan’s transition into the AI era and creating a smart living environment. He added that the government plans to assist 140,000 enterprises, particularly small- and medium-sized businesses, in upgrading and transformation over the next two years through industrial competitiveness programs.
Cho said the government and the panel industry will work together to strengthen Taiwan’s economic growth. This effort will be supported by continued policy, funding, technological backing, and talent development.
