TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Honhui Plaza in New Taipei’s Xinzhuang District aims to reach NT$6 billion (US$200 million) in revenue this year following last year’s renovation and initiatives to attract a wider range of customers, aiming to become one of the city’s top-earning department stores.
Honhui Plaza, which opened in 2020, is the only department store in Xinzhuang District, per CNA. Company Executive Director Ko Su-yin (柯愫吟) said the addition of the Japanese supermarket Lopia in 2024 has boosted sales. Lopia has become the store’s highest-grossing shop, generating annual revenue of NT$350 million.
Honhui Plaza posted NT$5.3 billion in revenue last year, marking a second straight year of growth. Its revenue rose 20% year-on-year in the first quarter. It aims to compete with Mega City Banqiao, Global Mall in Zhonghe District, and Yulon Town Mall in Xindian District.
In the first quarter, electronics led growth with a 56% year-on-year increase, followed by supermarkets at 53% and household goods and appliances at 37%. Food and beverage made up about 40% of sales, with further expansion planned this year.
Ko said the store is targeting NT$450 million in revenue during this year’s Mother’s Day sales campaign. It has offered promotions on home appliances, jewelry, and bedding, along with gift voucher incentives, to reach the goal.
Honhui Plaza sees weekend foot traffic about twice that of weekdays and will launch promotions to boost weekday visits. Amid growing competition, it also plans to enhance member services and hold sales events for them, Ko said.
To attract more family visits, the store has introduced indoor pickleball courts and will open a children’s play area in April. Since the Xiaomi store opened at Honhui in October, electronics sales have seen a boost, the company added.
Ko noted the department store has the potential to attract more customers from Wugu, Sanchong, and Luzhou Districts by adding new brands and regularly renovating its indoor spaces to create a fresh experience.
