TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The National Science and Technology Council said Wednesday that water and energy conditions will remain stable through May despite concerns about supply.
NSTC Minister Wu Cheng-wen (吳誠文) said Wednesday that supply is sufficient and expected to remain secure over the next two months, per UDN. He was responding to foreign media reports warning that shortages could disrupt global AI infrastructure.
Wu said authorities are prioritizing energy supply for existing manufacturers, with a focus on liquefied natural gas imports. The Ministry of Economic Affairs, CPC Corp., and Taipower are coordinating shipments to ensure stable supply, per CNA.
Wu added that Taiwan sources energy from multiple regions, including the Middle East, Australia, and the US. Alternative solutions have also been developed for certain specialized gas materials, he said.
On water supply, Wu said recent rainfall has eased earlier concerns. He said reports from science parks show that water availability has returned to stable levels.
Wu said government-led water projects, including the “String of Pearls” project, are progressing as planned. The initiative aims to link water systems in western Taiwan.
