TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Cathay Financial Holdings has partnered with OpenAI to introduce ChatGPT Enterprise and agentic AI technologies to enhance secure and efficient financial operations, CNA reported Tuesday.
Cathay Financial said it is the first domestic financial institution to partner with OpenAI. The collaboration includes integrating the company’s database with OpenAI’s AI tools to assist staff in their daily work.
The agentic AI technology will support employees with tasks such as document drafting, data compilation, and presentation preparation. It will also help generate code to speed up system development and securely connect the systems of the company’s subsidiaries.
Marcus Yao (姚旭杰), chief technology officer of Cathay Financial, said the company will work with OpenAI to offer training courses for employees to improve their use of AI tools. Oliver Jay, managing director of OpenAI International, praised the initiative, noting AI integration is set to become a key trend in the fintech sector.
The company will also work with OpenAI to develop AI-powered systems for corporate banking and insurance advisory services, Yao added. These systems will continuously learn and improve through user interactions and updated instructions.
At a technology conference in December, Cathay Financial unveiled its GAIA platform, which houses more than 200 information libraries for the financial sector, integrates more than 50 generative AI models, and features 70 AI-driven security measures. The platform is designed to support employees by turning AI tools into autonomous agents capable of reasoning, planning, and collaboration, the company added.
The company also developed an AI-powered assistant, “Afa,” for customers, which provides banking services, insurance, asset management, and credit card inquiries.
Starting last year, Cathay Financial also partnered with Nvidia to use its platforms to train Cathay’s self-developed large language model, which has up to 8 billion parameters. The model is designed to answer questions about financial services.
