TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — At a meeting Tuesday, the DPP discussed four potential candidates for the Nov. 28 Taipei mayoral election.
Earlier reports said the party favored Legislator Puma Shen (沈伯洋), but while he remains under consideration, no final choice was announced Tuesday, Liberty Times reported. The DPP is also considering Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun (鄭麗君), Forward Alliance founder Enoch Wu (吳怡農), and Legislator Fan Yun (范雲).
The party has no plans to rush a choice for Taipei because of the importance of the capital and prefers to take more time before announcing a final candidate.
The DPP candidate selection committee confirmed earlier reports that it would pick Deputy Justice Minister Huang Shih-chieh (黃世杰) for Taoyuan mayor. The party will allow him to remain at the ministry until late April before an official nomination in early May.
The two hours of discussions Tuesday reportedly did not include other likely choices, despite earlier reports naming former Legislator Chuang Ching-cheng (莊競程) for Hsinchu City mayor and Zhubei Mayor Cheng Chao-fang (鄭朝方) for Hsinchu County magistrate.
