TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A US House Republican delegation led by Zach Nunn is visiting Taiwan this week to meet with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and discuss security and cross-strait issues.
The delegation from the Republican Study Committee National Security Task Force includes Representatives Scott Fitzgerald, Julie Fedorchak, and Jefferson Shreve, per CNA. They will be in Taiwan from Sunday to Saturday.
During their visit, they will discuss Taiwan-US relations, regional security, and economic cooperation. Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) welcomed the delegation and noted that the timing coincides with the 47th anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act.
The Republican Study Committee is the largest conservative caucus in the US House, and its National Security Task Force focuses on the “peace through strength” doctrine and security challenges posed by China, Russia, and Iran.
Nunn has been a longtime advocate for Taiwan. Last year, he co-sponsored bipartisan bills including the Fortifying US Markets From Chinese Military Aggression Act and the US-Taiwan Defense Innovation Partnership Act.
Lin said Taiwan and the US are deepening cooperation in technology and supply chain resilience. He said Taipei will continue building a mutually beneficial partnership with Washington and like-minded countries to safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
