TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The Navy’s Dunmu Goodwill Fleet entered the Panama Canal on its way to visit diplomatic allies in the Caribbean, reports said Saturday.
The mission features the support ship Panshih, the Cheng Kung-class guided missile frigate Yue Fei, and the Kang Ding-class guided missile frigate Di Hua. They left port in February, per CNA.
The Taiwan embassy in the Marshall Islands said the fleet visited the Pacific ally March 10-12. The stop marked the Goodwill Fleet’s 20th visit to the country, and was the first stop on this year’s tour.
Footage from the Panama Canal showed the three ships entering the Miraflores Locks late Friday from the Pacific Ocean. However, the Ministry of National Defense still has not confirmed which diplomatic allies the fleet will visit next.
Taiwan has official relations with six countries in the region, the island states of Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Haiti, and the mainland nations of Belize and Guatemala.
